In a unique book, Khoury transcribes for the first time oral folk tales from the Levant. Tales are a tradition in this part of the world, and men used to go to cafes to listen to the the Hakawati’s epic and heroic stories until the middle of the 20th century. Meanwhile, in the privacy of their homes, women also told tales to women. In these stories, they are the heroins. In “Pearls on a branch”, Najla Jraissati Khoury shares with the reader 30 years of listening to women telling stories.

The English rights to this book were acquired by Archipelago, USA.

New to the list! Fall 2014.
