TROUPING THROUGH LEBANON

Last July, a curious sight arose in Bint beil, a Lebanese town still halfstrewn with rubble from the Summer 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.

Beirut is getting ready for the 39 authors under 39 years old, selected in the context of the event organized by the Hay festival for Beirut World Book Capital 2009, a year which is coming to an end on April 22, 2010.

The Arab Man Booker, also called International Arabic Prize of Fiction, was awarded on March 2cnd in Abu Dhabi to Saudi writer Abdo Khal for his novel ‘She throws sparks’.

A fine shortlist of nominees for the third ‘Arabic Booker’ has so far been overshadowed by manufactured controversy, Youssef Rakha writes.

This year’s Cairo book fair will be held from January 28th to February 10th 2010, at the Cairo international fairground.

Beirut’s international Book fair will be held from December 11th to 24th, 2009, at the BIEL exhibit center.
